Whistler Athletes Village Map

I've always been a huge fan of the snow, but as a kid growing up in the middle of the hot Australian desert, I didn't get to see it often. However, on the occasions that my family toured around the world, I would always absolutely love skiing and snowboarding down some of the most beautiful slopes in the world. Now that I'm all grown up, I do spend a considerable amount of my time - and money - chasing winter, trying to find some of the best places in the world to snowboard.

Without a doubt in my mind, the best skiing destination in the world is in Japan. The tiny little village of Niseko, only a few hours drive from Sapporo, is a place I have been to numerous times now. If you are after beautiful white powder snow, Niseko is king, and during January to March, is one of the most amazing places to be. The Japanese snow culture is amazing, so once you've finished boarding for the day, you can chill out in hot baths, have a beer inside a bar cut into an Igloo, or enjoy the local Japanese cuisine.

Another amazing snow destination is Whistler, a Canadian resort that is approximately one hundred and twenty five kilometres away from Vancouver. With over one and a half million visitors annually, Whistler is indeed popular, but for good reason - it houses some of the best slopes in the world. Between November and February, this resort is peaking with tourists, primarily from Australia and Europe. In 2010, Whistler is going to be the host to the Winter Olympic Games, so grab your tickets now and see some of the best winter athletes in the world!

Over to Europe now, where the place to be during winter is assuredly the Swiss Alps. With the best destinations in the Swiss Alps being Valais, Graubunden and Bernese Oberland, there is a very large range of skiing slopes and villages to explore. One of the biggest party destinations I've come across, the Swiss Alps will have you snowboarding during day and drinking, eating and being merry during night with some of the most hospitable people in the world. If sheer aesthetic natural beauty is what you after, Switzerland has it all.

Finally, to America, where Big Sky Resort in Montana is the heart of snow within the States. Situated only an hours drive away from Bozeman, Big Sky offers over five thousand acres of land that, during Winter, becomes one of the most active and energetic skiing fields in the world. Once you are finished with skiing, why not take a hike through the world famous Yellowstone National Park, which itself is only twenty minutes away from Big Sky?

If you are an avid skier or snowboarder, you have to check out the aforementioned destinations. Become a true adventurer and chase winter year round, and live and work in some of the most amazing snow resorts that the world has to offer.

When I'm not busy having fun snowboarding all around the world, I'm working on my laptop creating new and exciting webpages. My latest projects are about cheap surround sound systems and also brown leather dining chairs. Check them out!
